Oh my god, I thought I was going to be reported to Docs two weeks ago.  Anyway this is what happened.  I was at bakers delight yesterday, to buy a loaf of bread with my little charge. As always my charge a toddler did not want to be carried, and wanted to explore instead, so I place the little one on the floor so she could explore all around the area in the shopping centre. She was safe only adventuring no more than 2 metres away from me.  Anyway as I placed my order, a scroll for little one to eat right now and loaf of bread for the whole family, I gave my charge her scroll to eat now and paid for the purchases. I got a tap on my shoulder from a mother, who said “your child just drop this on the floor” while holding up a small piece of roll “and was about to put it in her month” while giving me this look.  Well I replied” That is ok, the littlie can have it  it builds up there immune system”  Well that “look”  turned into a look of shock horror, and she replied “Well it’s dirty and I don’t like little ones eating food off the floor”  I replied “That is Ok, it doesn’t bother me, but thank-you”  Well that “shock horror” look now turned into “I’m going to report you to DOCs look”  Oh my god, I quickly gave my loaf of bread, my charge and headed straight back to the car, turing back making sure that the dragon wasn’t following me so she could take down my licence plate number and report me.

Oh my god I though.  Anyway, told by employer all about it, just incase they get a knock of the door from the Department of Childrens Servcies.  They laughed and said parents these days, don’t worry about it.

Anyway been two weeks now, haven’t got a knock on the door, must be safe.

Well, I glad someone agrees with me.  Does “au-pair” mean “cheap labour?” Well after reading this article on the internet

I decide to do the rounds and look up au pair jobs and this is what I found.

Nightmare job number 1: click here

Both parents work full-time (mum a directors, dad a president of gobal company) employ housekeeps, can’t they afford a real nanny. Isn’t illegal in UK to had au pairs look after children under 3.

Nightmare job number 2:  Click here

The boys leave the house at 8.30am each morning. It is estimated that up to 2.5hrs of housework cleaning is required each day and the rest of the time is general tidy up, and helping with cooking etc. Does this mean “slave”. Sounds like it to me.

Nightmare job number 3:  Click here

No wage??? What is that, looking after someone else kids for free. More slave labour.  Where are the regulations???  Is there a law which has minimum working standards.

Yep, it is true nannies are losing their jobs.  Some of us have been there, some haven’t.  But from my experience it sucks! We know the drill.  Dad/Mum loses their  job, so does the nanny, they can no longer afford her anymore.  No income for family no income for nanny. Simple maths.

Now we all know what has happened in NY, with major investment banks been wiped out or taken over. Lehman Brothers is the biggest in history to go under, with 78 offices around the world, a workforce of  approximately 5,000 workers in London, 3,000 in the asia pacific & 30,000 in the US. The situtation looks grim.

Nanny agencies in London, and New York are already getting a influx of nannies on their books.

The collapse of the world’s most powerful wealth-creating engine required everyone to take stock of their financials. One Lehman executive in Rye Brook, fretting about paying off a Hamptons summer house and a ski chalet in Vermont, panicked on Monday morning and laid off her nanny, who had been with the Westchester family for nine years. “The nanny called me crying,” says Marla Sanders, who runs Advance Nannies and staffs Lehman homes. “One of the children she had brought home from the hospital.” Sanders knows more cuts for her clients are on the way. “They’re going to have to sell homes. The question is, will the homes sell? They’re cutting some of the children’s activities out, dance class, acting class. Are they going to have flowers delivered every day to their homes? I don’t think so!” Read on

On Thursday, a New York mother of two young children asked Carol Solomon, the owner of New York Nanny Center Inc., whether she could find a good nanny willing to work for less than the $1,200 a week sought by a candidate she had found elsewhere. “Based on everything that’s been going on with the market,” the mother told Ms. Solomon, “I’m concerned about committing to that kind of salary.” Ms. Solomon suggested another nanny seeking a more modest salary of $750 a week. But for Stacey Copeland, an administrator at Eden Nannies, the first whisperings of the gathering storm in the nanny state were already being felt. “Normally at this time of the year we get a rush of people looking for nannies. But it hasn’t happened yet,” she said. “Pay rates have also started to come down in recent months.” “Nannies are among the first to be hit when times start to get tough. It has been a boom time for nannies in recent years, but that looks to be ending. Many of the people who employ nannies are bankers and they are suffering now,” she added.Read on

Marie, 25, a fully qualified nanny who works in West Sussex, said that there were fewer full-time nannying positions now than at any time in the past seven years. “It is very difficult at the moment. There are a lot of nannies for very few positions.Read more

Well, this is really pissing me off. Nannies and babysitter who can’t read. To fill you in we have a website that is used for placing nanny jobs on it. It is very popular with nanny agencies and parents alike, as the ads are free. (Gumtree) But we have nannies/babysitters who like placing their services on it (fine by me) But placing them in the jobs available section is not fine. Are these nannies stupid, can’t they read!!!. NANNY JOBS -AU PAIR WORK. I believe that any parent who contacts these girls are just as stupid. This is basically a simply recruitment process. It you can’t read and write and follow instructions, then how in the hell, can you do you job???? Nannies please learn to read and follow instructions and stop placing your services in the jobs available section. Parents & Nanny Agencies please don’t contact them, as these girls are clearly dumb and stupid!
